EGERSUND
Egersund surrounds a small one, a bay dotted with islets tucked between low hills. The name of the city comes from the strait that separates it from the island of Eigerøy. Probably the first known settler in Egersund was Laithigar, whose name we know from ancient runic inscriptions found on a stone in nearby Møgedal. According to other sources, at least since 1292 r. there was a church in this place. In year 1843 the fire consumed almost two-thirds of the city, which were rebuilt with much wider streets, to prevent the spread of any further fires. In years 1847-1979 the main source of income for the inhabitants was the pottery industry and porcelain factory, and currently they derive their income primarily from the gas and oil industries. Egersund is in 8 000 people.
