Gastronomy

Popular local Gamle Kongsberg Kro (32731633), on the south bank of the river, offers a varied menu, moderate prices and tables outside with a beautiful view of the upper cascades of the river. Larger cascades can be seen (and you can hear it) w Fossen Kebab & A pizzeria on the eastern side of the bridge, where's the pizza, burgers, chickens and light dishes from the Middle East are served on a sunny terrace cooled with water spray. You can also eat pizza at B&B Deep Pan (32720850), south of the bridge, and at Jeppe's Pizza (Kirkegata 6, 32731500) In the old town. The latter also serves steaks and several Mexican dishes.

A modest King Burger, opposite the train station, recommends quick grilled dishes, and Aladdin's Kebab, at Storgata, invites you to eat a bit more sophisticated dishes: kebab, schwarma i felafel. For coffee and light snacks, head to the Lampe-land Café-stue (32733130), at Storgata. However, you have to be careful, so as not to confuse this place with Lampe-land Konditori, which is situated at Kirkegata. Bakeries are located in the Rimi supermarket, west of the train station, and at Storgata 19 Rema 1000, east of the bridge, offers a wide selection of groceries, while Vinmonopolet (liquor store) located south of the church.

Call information

The train journey from Oslo to Kongsberg continues 1 – 1,5 hours (105 nkr; 4 – 6 trains a day). NSB buses between Kongsberg and Larvik (2 at. 15 min, 105 nkr) run 2-3 times a day (once on a sunday).

Autobusy Nor-Way Bussekspress TIMExpressen (35026000) run between Kongsberg and Oslo (1 at. 30 min, 100 nkr), Saggrenda (10 min, 20 nkr) in Notodden (30 min, 40 nkr) every half hour most of the day. The stop for buses going to Oslo is at Den Norske Bank, and for those, which are headed to Notodden – in front of the cinema.

Bicycles can be rented from the tour desk (100 nkr for the day).
