It happened one time, that Loki fell into the hands of the giant Geirrodr. For he found out, that the crafty Thurs lives in Jotunheim, trapping the trekkers, who inadvertently wandered into the confines of his estate, and condemns those who are caught to a cruel death. The news was, that so far no one has managed or smart, nor with spells to avoid Geirrodr's ambushes.
Loki, confident in his cunning, decided to check it out. Transformed into a falcon, he flew to the giant's castle and, sitting on the wall, watched Thursom wind up around the detour. Quickly Geirrodr caught him and ordered him to be captured. Loki laughed, looking, as a servant climbs the wall to him, and for the sake of greater amusement, he let him come within arm's reach. However, when he wanted to take off for flight, felt, that his legs were pressed against the wall. Thus he was captured and brought to Thur-sa. Geirródr looked at the bird and recognized it immediately, that this is not a real falcon but a person in the form of an eagle. So he demanded, that the captive would show his true form. Once, however, Loki remained mute and deaf to the summons of the giant, he locked him in a cage and gave him nothing to eat or drink. After three months, Loki, close to death, finally collapsed.
Geirrodr, seeing who he is dealing with, agreed to let him go on condition, that will lure Thurs Thor into the country. Loki agreed to everything. After returning to Asgard, he told Thor, that a giant lives in Jótunheim, who does not know the terrible name of Odin's son and does not care about his fame. Thor became furious, and they set off quickly for Geirrodr's headquarters. On the way, they met Widar's mother, the giantess Grid. This one warned Thor, by, being at Geirrodr's, he was alert, moreover she lent him iron gloves, a belt of strength and a magic staff. From then on, he never parted with them.
