Kongsberg – active recreation.
The best hiking and cross-country tracks are in the wooded area of Knutefjell, right on the western border of the city. The Knutefjell Turkart med Skiløyper map is available for purchase at the tour desk, where all hiking and skiing trails are listed.
The most interesting route from the city leads from the Kongsberg Skisenter to the hills. It's hard at first, six-kilometer ascent to the Knutehytt refuge, located at a height 695 m n.p.m., in the central part of the band. In winter, you can use the chairlift on the steepest section (1700 m n.p.m.) belonging to Skisenter. An easier and slightly shorter path leads to Knutehytt from Mehei, from where you go north on the road to Notodden (you can take a bus to Notodden). You can then return to the city via the Skisenter. In winter, Skitaxi taxis are available to the Skisenter, what costs 25 nkr one way.
Prices for accommodation in Knutehytt hostel (32731283) are 240, 370 or 465 nkr per person, depending on the number of ordered meals (with one breakfast, two or three). In the west of Knutefjell, The chalk mill road 20, there are fourteen Statskog-Sølverket cottages (32771400). They can accommodate from four to fourteen people. Renting a cottage for one night costs from 250 do 400 nkr.
