Kwasir part 2

However, this murder was seen by Gilling's son - Suttung. He pounced on the dwarfs and carried them deep into the sea, where a low top of a rock protruded from the water. He left them there, and he himself went back to the shore and waited for the tide. He was sitting on a rock and his eyes filled with Fialarr and Galarr, sinking more and more into the sea. At the same time, he remained deaf to their pleas. Only when the dwarfs promised to give him Honey of Poetry as the mainland he agreed to release it. Then he hid the precious drink in his court in Huitbierg, and put his daughter Gunnlod on guard.

Odin found out, how Kvasir died and that his blood was transformed into a miraculous drink. He also knew, that the Suttung has it. The power of the drink was too great, that he may remain in the hands of the giants. It had to be obtained at any cost.

His brother Baugi lived near Settunga's headquarters. It had extensive pastures and thousands of cattle. These lands were so big, that the mowing of the grass was not kept up, which drove the giant furious.

Odin went there in disguise. In the meadow he met nine people sharpening sickles. God sharpened their own tools, the magic whetstone. They cut so well afterwards, everyone wanted to own it. Odin then tossed the whetstone between them, and they killed each other for her.

Now Odin has gone to see Baugi, a introduced himself as Bolwerk and took the job, committing, that one alone would replace nine men. As payment, he demanded the giant's help in obtaining the Honey of Poetry. Baugi agreed to the price.

Once summer is over, and all the work has been done, Odin volunteered for payment. They set off together to the Suttunga court, and here Baugi began to plead with his brother for his farmhand. However, the giant would not even hear of it, for a stranger to taste the holy drink. So they went away with nothing. Now Odin started to persuade Baugi, that he would help him obtain the Honey by trickery. After brief persuasions, the giant agreed.
